Our goal is to put our heating technology into the products of established brands. However, in order to test the fabrics and demonstrate its uses we have developed many prototype products and significant knowledge and expertise in fabric heating systems. The neoprene wetsuit top has been a pet project for the company. It has meant that company founder, Tait Wichman, and friends were living the life of luxury over the winter with prototype heated neoprene tops underneath their paddle jackets. The tops were powered by low-weight Lithium Ion batery packs that were fixed inside the kayak.
The first wetsuit top was produced as a display sample for the Avantex tradeshow, Germany, held in Frankfurt in June. It received a lot of positive attention and really got people thinking. As one very keen visitor to our stand said, "I want one! I only ever not go out water skiing if the lake has turned to ice". "Otherwise I just have to do it. I just love waterskiing". Well we understand and that's exactly why we developed this technology.
Our prototype wetsuit tops used the heating fabric laminated between two sheets of neoprene. The outer sheet provided thermal insulation and the inner sheet provided a smooth surface against the body and electrical isolation. What we also learnt was we needed our wiring, which ran around the circumference of the waist band, to be able to stretch with the neoprene. Out came the drawing board and within the week we had developed a solution. So the company now has a its own patent pending stretchable wire - a must for wetsuits and stretchable therapeutic products.
