The images to the right illustrate how an even temperature distribution is achieved over the surface of the fabric.  Furthermore, the fabric is free of hotspots.

Being knitted, Wera's heated fabrics are stretchable.  They are also very robust (to the point where they can can still operate safely with holes in them).  Unlike carbon fabric heaters, Wera's heated fabrics can withstand rigorous pulling, rubbing and stretching without damage.  We have also successfully put our fabric through a series of commerical washing tests.

One of the key advantages of our knitted heated fabrics is it does not require new processes or machinery to produce.  As a result, licensing of the technology becomes a simple option.

Wera TM - Making Heating Simple

Our Core technology
Wera has invested in the development of many varieties of knitted heated fabrics as well as a variety of electronic power and temperature control systems

Largely the technology and intellectual property lies in the knitted structures and how the fabric is engineered for heating.  Our yarns use a variety of special conductive fibres blended with either fine merino wool, fire retardent polyester, or aramids to deliver the desired feel and heating properties.

In most applications it is necessary to provide some form of temperature control.  The company has developed a range of prototype electronic controllers used to test our fabrics and to demonstrate controlled heating.   As a result we have extensive knowledge and capability in the design of electronic controllers and can either supply some of our in-house solutions or assist you in developing a solution tailored to meet your needs.  In early 2008 we will be releasing our first range of commercial controllers.

Heating properties and performance
The standard fabrics can be powered up to 180 degress celcius - suitable for many industrial applications.  Some of our yarns use a fine merino wool, which provides the added safety of being self-extinguishing.

The fabrics are fast heating.  They need to be energised at the right voltage to get the desired heat-up response and surface temperature.  The  following graph shows a typical heating cycle.
